Abstract

There is still no strong evidence that the 'active management' package of care in labour reduces caesarean section or operative delivery rates. Psychological support has the most evidence of effectiveness, but even this comes largely from poor-quality trials. The evidence that the whole package shortens labour is stronger, but the effect is small in the methodologically stronger studies.
