Abstract

Abstract In recent years considerable progress has been made in the use of residual approximations to obtain error estimates for adaptive meshing procedures. For general problems with curved boundaries the residual function must be approximated using numerical techniques. The integration scheme used is critical to the accuracy of the estimations. In this paper integration techniques which provide smooth residual function estimates for three-dimensional elasticity applications are described and results are given for an example problem.
