Abstract

Abstract We have studied the electrical resistivity from 295 to 4.2K of stage 2, 3 and 4 perchloric acid graphite intercalation compounds based on highly oriented pyrographite and a stage 3 single crystal based sample. The basal plane resistivity ϱ a is mettalic and varies monotonically with temperature. The c axis resistivity is 5 to 6 orders of magnitude greater and manifests a somewhat sluggish rise upon decreasing the temperature below 200–250K: raising the temperature through the same region results in hysteretic effects but with a sharply defined maximum.
