Abstract

Abstract Inelastic neutron scattering spectroscopy has been used to investigate the motions of the C 2H 2 moiety in the complex Co 2(CO) 6·C 2H which we have reasonably assumed to have a molecular structure comparable with that of Co 2(CO) 6·C 2Ph 2. Torsional modes have been loca and the barrier to rotation of the C 2H 2 ligand, about the axis joining the mid points of the CoCo and CC bonds, determined. Sev vibrations have been re-assigned, or firmly assigned for the first time, on the basis of their intensities in the amplitude-weighted density of states obtained from the neutron scattering data.
