Abstract

Abstract The maximum dc Josephson current is evaluated for superconductor-normal metal (SN) proximity sandwich-insulator-superconductor junctions in the case when the normal metal contains magnetic impurities. The Kaiser-Zuckermann-Machida theory based on the McMillan model is applied in order to describe the proximity effect. It is found that impurity-concentration dependence of the Josephson current to the S side of sandwiches gives direct information of that of the order parameter on the S side, and that the effect of the bound-state position within the energy gap becomes significant on the Josephson current with decreasing thickness of the S side metal.
