Abstract

Abstract Locally administered estradiol (0.005 μg) increased cholesterol synthesis from acetate only at the section of the uterus close to the site of injection. Increasing the estradiol to 0.1 μg., led to an increase in cholesterol synthesis in the contralateral horn. Local action, however, was still observed by this treatment. The relation between the dose of locally administered estradiol and that part of the uterus influenced by the hormone observed in experiments dealing with ovo-implantation, accords well with the observed changes in the rate of cholesterol synthesis.
