The Influence of Loading Duration on Consolidation Characteristics

A study is made of the consolidation characteristics of a clay, as they are affected by the duration of previous pressure. It is shown theoretically that the characteristics are considerably influenced by the loading duration. The experimental results also indicate the same tendency. In conclusion, it is pointed out that the re-examination of the increment duration is necessary for the determination of the coefficient of consolidation from consolidation tests.
