Abstract

Abstract A variety of evidence supporting the proposal that the sulfur atom in thiodiacetic acid. S(CH 2COOH) 2, acts as a bridge between the electrode surface and Cr 2+ during the oxidation of the latter at mercury electrodes is presented and discussed. The bridging ligand is extensively incorporated in the Cr(III) product when the oxidation is carried out near -0.3 to -0.4 V vs. SSCE, but the incorporation diminishes at more positive potentials. the initial Cr(III) complex containing the coordinated ligand features a chromium-sulfur bond, but is not strongly adsorbed on the electrode surface
