Abstract

Abstract Due to the enhancement of the singularity of q = 2 k F in the RPA dielectric function of an electron gas by a magnetic field the change in the penetration depth of an electric field in a thin metal film may lead to a detectable change in capacitance. A possible means for studying the Kohn anomaly is proposed on this basis.
