Abstract

Abstract Examination of the provisional metamorphic map of Zambia shows the existence of two major metamorphic belts. One, the ‘Lufilian Belt’, parallels the Lufilian structural arc, while the other, the ‘LuangwaKariba Belt’, includes parts of the ‘Zambezi’, ‘Irumide’ and ‘Mozambique’ tectonic belts. Structural, metamorphic and geochronological considerations suggest that the whole of the Luangwa-Kariba Belt forms part of the Mozambique orogenic belt.
