Abstract

Abstract The force of interaction between a dislocation and a misfitting ordered particle is calculated as a function of the number of dislocations which have passed through the glide plane. A statistical theory is used to calculate the critical resolved shear stress (CRSS) from a random three dimensional distribution of sheared particles. It is found that the CRSS decreases with shear in a glide plane with ordered particles and increases for misfitting particles. The implications of these results on localized shear and serrated yield are discussed.
