Abstract High resolution laser induced fluorescence spectra of IrC in the spectral region between 394 and 520 nm have been recorded. Nine vibronic transition bands were observed and analyzed. Three new electronic transition systems have been identified and studied. Rotationally resolved transition lines of the 191IrC and 193IrC isotopes are obtained and analyzed. Least squares fit of transition lines yielded accurate molecular constants for the upper states. Observed spectra of isotopic molecules confirmed the vibrational assignment. Using a molecular orbital energy level diagram, we examined the electronic configurations giving rise to the observed excited states.
