Abstract

Abstract The values of acetazolamide-sensitive carbon dioxide hydration activity (carbonic anhydrase) and of non-specific CO 2-hydration catalysis of human serum are reported, and the relation of enzymic activity to the erythrocyte destruction is evaluated. No consistent relationship was found between the serum carbonic anhydrase activity and the clinical diagnosis; the previously reported electrophoretic separation of the serum hydration activities 1 gives more information about the occurrence of serum isoanhydrases other than that coming from erythrocytes.
