Abstract

Abstract It is shown that three-dimensional contacts have the same forceā€“displacement law as in a simple one-dimensional model. This is valid both for normal and tangential contact problem. Under some additional assumptions these ideas can be used for adhesive contacts too. The above reduction makes it possible to develop effective simulation methods for contact and friction processes.
