Abstract

Abstract In almost all cases of practical interest, the rate of corrosion or oxidation of a metallic material is controlled by a surface film. These films may be glassy or crystalline, range in thickness from a few monolayers upwards, and may have properties remote from those of bulk materials of similar composition. The techniques for the investigation of these films are typical of those used in surface studies with appropriate adaptions and modifications.
