Abstract

Abstract The matrix elements of the third-order transfer matrices for the electrostatic quadrupole lens are calculated by solving the relativistic equation of motion. The results are arranged as 31 × 31 matrices including terms which originate from particles having different energies. The relativistic correction is necessary for the influence of the fringing field, and the corrected matrix elements are also given.
