Abstract

Abstract In strong magnetic fields (e.g., 8 Tesla) anisotropy of the shift tensor (chemical or Knight shift) can alter the spacings of the features of quadrupole-split deuteron spectra of polycrystalline samples. Analysis of powder spectra yields both correct quadrupole coupling and symmetry parameters and all the components of the shift tensor. Synthetic and experimental examples are given to illustrate such behavior.
