Abstract

Abstract Gas breakdown in an excimer laser-ablated plasma occurs to a greater extent in an argon atmosphere than in an air or helium atmosphere. A simple relationship between the ambient gas breakdown and the physical properties of the metal target was deduced from experimental data for argon gas breakdown using a 763.9-nm argon line and aluminum, copper, iron, lead, and zinc targets.
