Abstract

Abstract The frequency and clinical significance of pericardial effusions in infective endocarditis has not been well documented. In the past, studies on pericardial effusion in infective endocarditis were rare and their cause usually suppurative. 1,2 Echocardiography is a sensitive technique for the detection of pericardial effusion. 3 This study analyzes the frequency, clinical features and clinical course of patients with infective endocarditis associated with pericardial effusion detected by 2-dimensional (2-D) echocardiography.
