Abstract

Abstract New sulfohalide glasses have been recently obtained in the HgSPbBr 2PbI 2 system. From the most stable composition 40HgS40PbBr 220PbI 2 (equivalent formulation: Hg 2Pb 3S 2Br 4I 2), new glasses corresponding to the following compositional formulations: Hg (2 + x) Pb (3 − x) S 2Br 4I 2 (−2 ⩽ x ⩽ 3), Hg 2 Pb 3 S (2 + y)[ Br 4 I 2] (1 −1 1 3y ) (−2 ⩽ y ⩽ 3) , Hg 2Pb 3S 2Br (4+z)I (2−z) (−4 ⩽ z ⩽ 2) , have been prepared. The vitreous domains, the characteristic temperatures and the IR absorption edge have been determined. A structural approach to these materials is proposed on the basis of IR absorption investigations.
