Abstract

Abstract The rotational bands in 152Eu based on the configurations [h 11/2; α = ±1/2] p[i 13/2; α = 1/2] n are studied self-consistently with respect to the neutron and proton pairing gaps and the deformation parameters ε and γ. A signature-dependent deformation is found as a result of differences in the deformation-driving properties of the excited quasiparticles. The calculations can only partly explain the experimentally observed signature splitting and a discussion of possible explanations for the remaining discrepancy between the theoretically calculated rotational bands and experiment is given.
