Abstract

Abstract We study the effect of the periodic small signals and noise in the Hindmarsh–Rose model of neuron. We found that the stochastic and the chaotic relaxation oscillations can transform into qualitatively different periodic oscillations under the action of the same small signal. The type of the steady oscillations depends on the moment the signal is turned on. The obtained results might be used to qualitatively explain ambiguity of the image sensing by the human eye.
