Abstract

Abstract A survey of ‘cancer-oriented’ physicians in a Midwestern community reveals significant differences among practitioners in attitude toward communication with cancer patients. Attitudes toward communication varied according to specialty, years of experience, and certain features of practice. While the data do not cover concrete physician behavior, they contradict a long-held belief about physician attitudes towards communication and raise issues for the delivery of care.
