Abstract

Abstract The results of this experiment indicate that mediolateral plication of the paralyzed diaphragm improves vital capacity and maximum breathing capacity up to 4 wk postoperative. Although the respiratory mechanics in plicated animals never returned to preoperative control levels, there was a statistically significant improvement over animals without plication. One patient is reported that underwent this procedure.
