This chapter outlines the origins of inclusive education as an international movement and the assumptions and values that underpin it. The chapter draws upon international research and presents a framework for understanding the nature of the different types of research evidence that contribute to the area. The nature of inclusive pedagogy is considered and the implications for psychologists, who often act as gatekeepers to inclusion, are highlighted.
