Abstract

Abstract The magnetophonon effect is observed for the first time in n-type silicon. As a result of the multi-valley nature of the conduction band, the magnetophonon spectrum is extremely complex and Fourier analysis reveals at least seven different series for B ‖ (100) and four series for B ‖ (111). Phonons of characteristic temperatures of 134 K ( g-type), 530 K (ƒ-type) and 680 K (ƒ-type) contribute substantially to the intervalley scattering.
