Abstract

Abstract Evidence is presented to show that fluorescence of nondenatured proteins may be induced in agar and polyacrylamide gels with the magnesium salt of 8-anilino-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid (ANS) by “salting-out” with (NH 4) 2SO 4 solutions. The practical aspects of this finding are emphasized in relation to the excellent resolving powers of preparative polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.
