Abstract

Abstract The photodissociation of dianthracene and related compounds leads to appreciable fractions of excited state excimer or exciplex products, dependent on temperature and solvent viscosity. The experimental evidence strongly suggests the involvement of an intermediate with an electronic structure which correlates with that of the benzyl radical.
