Abstract

Abstract Very small satellite terminals or “micro earth stations” now provide low cost one-way and two-way data communications in the U.S. This same technology may also deliver low-cost voice and data services to unserved areas of developing countries. This article describes the technology and networks available using domestic satellites and the INTELSAT system, and projects applications and impacts for developing countries.
