Abstract

Abstract A method is described for calculating the rate constants of ion—molecule reactions in a pulsed-source mass spectrometer where parent and daughter ions differ markedly in mass. The rate of loss of ions in the ion source is mass dependent, but a correction can be made for this using experimentally determined decay curves for ions of masses similar to those of the primary and secondary ions.
