Abstract

Abstract A theory has been developed that describes the depth of the water table in the case of a soil underlain by an artesian aquifer which is drained by means of a subsoil drainage system. The theory is based on two-dimensional groundwater flow and solutions were obtained for both steady- and nonsteady-state conditions. Examples of cases with different piezometric pressures in the underlying aquifer are given.
