Abstract

Abstract We study the effect of liquid loading on surface acoustic waves propagating on the (1 1 0) face of cubic crystals. A semi-infinite nonviscous liquid in contact with solid substrate induces new branches of Rayleigh and pseudo-surface waves which are not supported on the free surface. The group velocities are calculated and compared with ultrasound images obtained experimentally.
