The Vienna ICFTU Congress.

Membership in the ICFTU has increased markedly since the meeting of its initial Congress in 1949 (see Adolf Sturmthal, "The International Confederation of Free Trade Unions," "Industrial and Labor Relations Review," Vol. 3, No. 3 [April 1950], p. 382), totaling in 1955 one hundred and eight organizations with 54,500,000 individual members. The fourth biennial Congress of the ICFTU, held in Vienna, May 20-28, 1955, was devoted, according to this report, largely to administrative and financial problems--especially with respect to organizing activities in underdeveloped countries--and to a variety of international problems, arising in large part from the struggle between the Communist and free countries.
