Abstract

Publisher Summary The development of the inner ear has long been a source of fascination for biologists. The development of a highly sophisticated sensory organ from simple beginnings as a patch of ectoderm parallels the development of the entire embryo from similarly basic origins. Moreover, the accessibility of the developing inner ear, together with its clear visibility from early developmental stages has made it an attractive system for embryological study.
