Abstract

Abstract Intensive care is arguably the most stressful setting, from a psychological point of view, in which the hospitalised patient finds himself. This paper explores these effects on patients admitted to the Intensive Therapy Unit and also discusses the additional stressors imposed on patients faced with an isolation regime.
