Abstract

Abstract Since 1952, the bed rest in the treatment of myocardial infarction in the Medical Clinic of the University of Turku has been limited to two weeks. A report on 332 patients with myocardial infarction treated in 1952 to 1954 indicates that early ambulation was not associated with an increased hazard to the patients as regards the rate of mortality. The incidence of other complications did not appear to be higher, at least, than normally, with the exception, perhaps, of the incidence of recidive myocardial infarctions during the first month after dismissal from the hospital.
