Abstract

Abstract A new microscopic model is proposed to describe the expansion and vaporization of a hot nucleus. The model incorporates the dynamics of the expansion process into finite-temperature Hartree-Fock theory. Testing the method on 40Ca, we find that most of the nucleus remains in the liquid phase if the temperature is below 8 MeV, and for higher temperatures most of it is turned to vapor in the initial expansion.
