Abstract

Abstract The thermolytic decomposition of Ph 4SbSAr in organic solvents are reported. Solvent-derived products from decompositions in CCl 4 and cyclohexane confirm the free radical nature of the reactions. Thermal decompositions of Ph 3 ( p-MeC 6H 4)SbSC 6H 4OMe- p, or Ph( p-MeC 6H 4) 3SbSC 6H 4X(X p-MeO or H) provide mixed triarylstibines,[Ph 3 n Sb(C 6H 4Me- p) n ( n0, 1, 2 and 3), disulphide (XC 6H 4SSC 6H 4X), monosulphides (PhSC 6H 4X and p-MeC 6H 4SC 6H 4X), arenes, (PhH and PhMe) and biaryls (Ph 2,PhC 6H 4Me- p and p-MeC 6H 4C 6H 4Me- p).
