Abstract

Abstract The properties of a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) under the influence of a perpendicular magnetic field which is periodic in one direction are investigated. Two situations are considered: (i) a periodic array of magnetic field steps, and (ii) a saw-tooth magnetic field profile. In contrast with the usual potential-modulated case, the present systems are not separable. We give the energy spectrum, the density of states and the diagonal components of the conductivity tensor.
