Abstract

Abstract Several chromium hydrides, having composition within the range CrH 0 to CrH 2, were prepared and the various phases which exist at each composition determined using X-ray diffraction techniques. The unit cell parameters of the phases and the overall phase diagram for the composition range CrH 0CrH 1·0 are presented. The formation of hexagonal CrH 1·0 or face-centered cubic CrH 1·0 depends upon the method of preparation and the hydrogen content rather than upon the hydrogen content alone.
