Abstract

Abstract An evacuated chamber housing a cylindrical arrangement of Makrofol KG, 1000 mm diam. and 500 mm long, has been designed for the measurement of fission fragment angular distributions from a 12 mg sample of fissionable material spread over a 100 mm diam. circular area. The equipment will be used initially for sub-threshold fission studies of the reactions 230Th(n,f) and 231Pa(n,f) in a neutron energy region now thought to be governed by a third hump in the fission potential barrier.
