Abstract

Abstract The Hall resistivity ϱ H in single crystals of CeS, CeSe and CeTe has been measured between 1.8 and 300 K. In all the compounds ϱ H, being always negative, is proportional to the magnetic field up to 70 kOe in the paramagnetic region. The temperature dependence of the Hall coefficient R H reflects that of the magnetic susceptibility above ∼ 150 K, below which it exhibits a more complicated behavior. The ordinary Hall coefficient derived from a plot of R H( T − θ P) against T − θ P above 150 K suggests one conduction electron per Ce ion.
