Abstract

Developing spermatids of Mysis oculata relicta, found embedded within spermatic duct epithelial cells, are surrounded by extracellular tubules. During late spermiogenesis, tubules disintegrate into 60–90 Å, constituent filaments and amorphous electron-opaque masses in the spermatic duct and seminal vesicle. The significance of these tubules is discussed in terms of the suggested functions and composition of similar tubules found in testes of a wide variety of animal and plant species. It is concluded that the tubules in all species may have a common function and composition.
