Abstract

Abstract This paper describes a program designed to provide both help for retarded adolescent giris who were too depressed to involve themselves in vocational training, and an opportunity for medical students to have a supervised patient contact as a basis for studying the interrelationship of emotional and intellectual deVelopment. The medical students, acting as tutor-therapists, met weekly with the girls to help them improve their capacities and to assist them with painful feelings regarding their incapabilities. The girls improved in school and job performance, ability to relate, and ability to manage frustration and anxiety.
