Abstract

Abstract Using an appropriate reactor and variable-temperature photoelectron spectroscopy (VTPES), the kinetic rate-constant for the duration of bicyclopentadiene to cyclopentadiene is determined as approximately 1.9 s −1 at 328°C and 0.1 torr. The study constitutes the first application of photoelectron spectroscopy to the quantitative investigation of chemical reactions. The technique might prove useful for the study of thermal decomposition reactions in the medium-vacuum region.
