Abstract

Abstract This paper reports the results of an investigation of the possible use of measurements of up-converted luminescence in order to identify different sites of dopant ions in crystals. The system investigated is the garnet Y 3 Al 5 O 12 doped with the praseodymium ion. We first characterize this system and then report on the techniques used and present our results. We offer at the end our conclusions regarding the potential use of our technique as a useful tool in site selective spectroscopy of rare-earth-doped crystals.
