Abstract

Abstract The metallurgical results of laser surface alloying of cast iron with chromium are discussed. Although the melting point of chromium is much different compared to cast iron, it is possible to alloy the surface of cast iron with chromium by laser heating. The results show that the alloyed zone consists of three different microzones containing chromium along with some free chromium.
