Abstract

Cashing U.S. government checks for Nez Perce Indians at the Indian Agency, Lapwai, Idaho, August 15, 1895. Total amount of first payment $626,222.00. Each Indian received $302.96. Balance of $1,000,000 was to be paid in ten annual installments. Photograph taken at the Indian Agency at Lapwai, Idaho, 14 miles east of Lewiston, during the payment.
