Abstract

Abstract Infrared and Raman spectra are reported for 1-methyl barbituric acid, and for its deuterated counterpart, in argon and nitrogen matrices at different concentrations. Infrared, far infrared and Raman spectra of the solid phase were also obtained. The data enabled a vibrational assignment to be made both for the monomeric form and for the solid. The changes in the spectra from monomer, through dimer, to the solid suggest that the compound forms hydrogen-bonded cyclic dimers.
