Abstract

Abstract Infrared spectra of monomeric acetamide, urea and urea- d 4 isolated in an argon matrix were studied. The structure of the group for the isolated urea molecule is very similar to that of acetamide and other amides. The NH 2 “inversion” transitions were observed for acetamide and urea at 268 and 227 cm −1 respectively, and this observation suggests that the C—NH 2 group forms a very shallow pyramid in the isolated molecules.
